Food Blogger Interview: Justin of College Recipes

JustinFarber-CollegeRecipes-portraitDishfolio food bloggers of all types contribute to our food photography community, and today's interviewee has a truly unique take on the subject. Justin Farber of aims to bring entertaining, informative and engaging food related content to the college demographic.

Tell us about your food blogging goals: What are they? How are you accomplishing them?

Our long term goal for the site is to serve as a resourceful tool for college students learning to cook, and to expand our viewership into the millions. We are currently a small team of passionate, food-loving writers, dedicated to producing ample recipes, how-to's and other useful and entertaining content. To help expand traffic, we are becoming very active on social media websites as well as food blogs. These next few months will be a work-intensive period of growth and expansion, as we execute a busy content production schedule for the very first time. We look forward to seeing the site grow as a resource!

What ethical food issues get you talking with your friends and family?

This is a great topic that I feel more and more people should explore and establish personal positions on. I often consider the ethics behind eating meat, and have placed high importance on knowing where the meat I eat comes from. I do not want meat bad enough for animals to suffer inhumane conditions for their entire lives. This however, is a personal choice for everyone, as it depends on how you view humanity's relationship with nature.

JustinFarber-CollegeRecipes-logoWhat's the best food photography tip you've learned in the past year?

The best food photography tip I have learned in the past year has definitely been to photograph exclusively in natural lighting. The difference in quality of the final image color is very significant, and food almost always looks more appealing in natural lighting. My kitchen lights are pure yellow, and are matched with a yellowish green countertop, making it near-impossible to get a decent photograph.

How many cookbooks do you own and which do you reach for most often?

I own about ten cookbooks that I have referenced and read throughout my life. At this point however, I rarely find myself reaching for a cookbook and instead turning to the Internet for inspiration! It simply has so much more to offer than can be constrained in a single book.

What's next? How will you make yours the best food blog in town?

Currently, our goal is to greatly expand content production on the site during the summer months, and execute a busy editorial calendar. We're taken on a some excellent contributing writers who are college students themselves, with passions for food and photography, and excited to see the site expand! Our commitment to quality content and photographs and innovation in design will prove our site worth visiting time and time again!
